2006 Winner
Mr. Daniel Thomas Drechsler is the 2006 recipient of our River Hill Lions Club-Clover High School Harold M. Brietman Memorial Scholarship, a $4000.00 award, payable annually at $1000.00 for each of four years. The award is based upon academic prowess, school and community involvement and financial need.The second of four siblings, all of whom will be attending college either simultaneously or in quick succession, Daniel, 5th in his class of 338 students, with a 4.969 GPA, 1340 SAT score, is a SC Palmetto Fellow. In addition to his excellent academic record, for all four years at CHS, Daniel distinguished himself in leading roles in dozens of sold out concerts as a member of the CHS chorus, an activity most demanding in dedicated, self discipline. In addition, Daniel participated in all state chorus presentations.
A member of the National Honor Society, Daniel also participated in CHS’s Historical Society, Math Team and International Club and served as a in school tutor in math and English. He serves as a member of his church choir, has volunteered his time and energy at God’s Kitchen and has earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He even operates his own summer lawn service business.
Daniel has been accepted at Erskine College, a college he has chosen as its graduates enjoy a high degree of acceptance to medical schools. Following graduation from Erskine, Daniel intends to study medicine, specializing in rheumatology, radiology or anesthesiology, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Upon completion of his medical studies, Daniel intends to open a practice in a small town setting. His goal is to help ease the misery caused by rheumatoid arthritis, a disease from which he suffers himself. In Daniel’s own words, “…as a rheumatologist, I will be uniquely able to help others with the same disease through this commonality we would share.”
